This charming and dreamy dance-based performance imagines two friends who live inside a wastepaper basket! Together they discover what imaginative ideas might unfold from a crumpled piece of paper–can mistakes inspire our greatest ideas? - : Petite Rouge: A Cajun Red Riding Hood

Petite Rouge: A Cajun Red Riding Hood updates the classic tale, sending the plucky heroine—now a red-robed little duck—and her ‘fraidy cat friend Te Jean on a perilous journey through the bayou. Along the way the pair tangle with a Big Bad Gator. Petite is no sitting duck, though, and leads her nemesis on a merry Mardi Gras chase through New Orleans. : Family Storytime at Connie Morella Library

These 25-30-minute programs are designed to delight children of all ages and are filled with diverse stories and activities that promote and develop language skills and imagination. These programs encourage children to develop a lifelong love of reading and learning and introduce them to the culture of reading.

Get up and get moving at storytime! These 20-30-minute programs are full of a diverse collection of books, songs and fun activities. Space is limited! Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis at the Information desk on the morning of the program. Events are held Tuesday mornings at 10:30 and 11:15. - : LEGO Construction and Duplo Too!

Each Wednesday, join us in the meeting room from 4:00pm-5:00pm for a session of building with LEGO and Duplos! We supply the LEGO and Duplo pieces, and you supply the imagination! This program is for children ages 3 years old and up. Parents/caregivers MUST accompany children under the age of 8 during the program. Connie Morella Library is located at 7400 Arlington Road.

: Growing Readers Storytime

Come by Bright Horizons at 2 Bethesda Metro from 4-6 PM for Growing Readers Storytime! Listen to stories from our Growing Readers collection, participate in activities, and get to know our community. This FREE event is great for kids aged 0-7.

: My First Book Club: For Beginning Readers (Grades K, 1, and 2)

Children in Grades K-2 can practice their reading skills through group reading, activities & games based on beginner reader books. Each session will focus on a different theme. Caregivers must attend. Takes place from 4-5 PM at Connie Morella Library.

: No Shelf Control (Grades 4-6 Book Club)

If you are in grades 4, 5 or 6 and love to read and have fun talking about books and characters, No Shelf Control is the place for you! This month, we'll discuss "Montgomery and the Case of the Golden Key," the story of ten-year-old Montgomery Carver who tries to solve a mystery around a strange object he's found in his Chicago neighborhood in 2008, amid the background of a presidential election and the city's attempt to lure the Olympics into town. We will also have a mystery activity for participants to solve after the book discussion!

You can borrow a copy (with a specially prepared reading guide just for our group) from the Connie Morella Library; just ask at the Check Out or Information Desks for the February book for No Shelf Control. No Shelf Control takes place from 6:30-7:30 PM.

: Blooming Adventures: Garden Stories from Zora Neale Hurston

Dig into this interactive, storytelling program highlighting the creative work of a celebrated Harlem Renaissance artist. Zora Neale Hurston's stories spring with appreciation for the natural world as a place full of wonder. Get to know her as an American visionary through folk stories retold by Master Storyteller, Diane Macklin. Sponsored by FOLMC.

The event takes place from 2-3 PM at Connie Morella Library. Tickets are required, and may be obtained at the Information Desk 30 minutes prior to the program.

: How to Write Poems & Flash Fiction

Explore two genres in one generative afternoon. After some fun warm-up exercises to get the creative juices flowing, we’ll use a no-fail process for writing poems—including a love poem for Valentine’s Day. You’ll be able to circumvent the analytic brain and give creativity a chance to thrive in flash fiction, too. There will be opportunities to read your writing to a supportive group. Expect to receive positive feedback that points the way toward your writing talents. : Twelfth Night

Twelfth Night is a refreshingly new period ensemble led by keyboardist David Belkovski and violinist Rachell Ellen Wong, also performing here with violin, theorbo, and mezzo-soprano. : Literary Liaisons: A Romance Author Panel

: Jesse Dougherty: Buzz Saw's fifth anniversary @ Wonderland Books

It's the fifth anniversary of the Washington Nationals' World Series win and the release of journalist Jesse Dougherty's book Buzz Saw: The Improbable Story of How the Washington Nationals Won the World Series, which chronicled the team's unlikely road to the championships. Jesse will talk about the process of writing the book, his memories from that season and the broader state of sports journalism. The event takes place from 7 - 8 PM.

Join the B-CC English Conversation Club every Wednesday from 11 AM to 12:30PM for the opportunity to practice conversational English in small groups. : History Hour at the Josiah Henson Museum

Civil rights icon Thurgood Marshall delivered an early blow to school segregation right here in Montgomery County—gaining equal pay for the county’s African American teachers in 1937. This little-known legal case is often seen as the first step in Marshall’s successful drive to have separate schools for white and black children declared unconstitutional, as the Supreme Court did 17 years later in a landmark decision. - : Jane Kell: Skyline at Amy Kaslow Gallery

Jane Kell is back at Amy Kaslow Gallery this winter with a dreamy body of work called "Skyline." The ten-piece collection showcases end-of-day variegated blues and grays, and sunset oranges atop deeply hued treelines. Kell is well known as an evocative abstract landscape painter with a colorist approach, with a penchant for waterways and wild brush along coastlines. : Black History Month Family Day at Josiah Henson Museum

Reverend Josiah Henson worked tirelessly throughout his life to advocate for freedom and education. On Saturday, February 22 come visit the Josiah Henson Museum and Park for educational, hands-on activities that demonstrate what a child’s life was like in Dawn, the settlement he created after taking his family to Canada via the Underground Railroad.
